The Office of Continuing Medical and Interprofessional Education at Penn Medicine (CME and IPCE) administers the CME Program as an ACCME accredited provider on behalf of the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and the Penn Medicine’s Interprofessional Continuing Education Program. We collaborate closely with the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Department of Nursing Education Innovation and Professional Development to support the development and accredit educational activities and curricula that are designed by and for the clinical teams through a single, unified application and planning process.
The goal of this education is to address the professional practice gaps of the healthcare team using an educational planning process that reflects input from those healthcare professionals who make up the team and the content that should reflect the team approach to patient care.
This IPCE education is designed to change the skills/strategy, performance, or patient outcomes of the healthcare team. National and international health leadership organizations have identified interprofessional education and team-based care as a critical component of health care improvement. Providers of continuing education for the healthcare team build bridges with other stakeholders through collaboration and cooperation within a framework for quality improvement by planning, offering and evaluating education for teams comprised of 2 or more healthcare professionals.
