Program Overview & Target Audience:

Current Advances in Heart & Vascular Care 2018 will provide the most current, evidence-based strategies for managing cardiovascular disease. The goal is to increase the knowledge of the interprofessional and multidisciplinary learners by providing them with the ability to provide high quality, cost effective care that will lead to superior patient outcomes.

This activity has been designed for primary care physicians, interventional cardiologists, clinical cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, vascular surgeons, hospitalists, emergency medicine specialists, interventional radiologists, nurses, physician assistants, technologists and other members of the health care team who want to enhance their knowledge of current advances in the management of patients with heart and vascular disease.


Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the most current eligibility requirements used in identifying patients eligible for percutaneous valvular procedures
  • Apply evidenced-based medicine to incorporate current guidelines for treatment of heart failure patients with the goal of decreasing patient readmissions
  • Identify the role of specific antiplatelets and anticoagulants in treatment of cardiovascular disease
  • List 2 or more cardiac disorders associated with the opioid addiction crisis
  • Describe new diagnostic techniques, medications and procedures utilized by the interdisciplinary care team in the care of the patient with cardiovascular disease
  • Describe the cardiovascular risk of the cancer survivor following the administration of checkpoint inhibitors
  • Apply evidenced-based knowledge used by the interdisciplinary care team in the treatment of women and heart disease

Registration Fees:

The registration fees for the Current Advances in Heart & Vascular Care 2018 are the following: $99 for Physicians or Industry Representatives, $79 for Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists. $59 for Nurses and Healthcare Professionals. The registration fee is $49 for Chester County Hospital and Penn Medicine employees, faculty and staff with a valid Chester County Hospital or Penn Medicine ID. The registration fee includes attendance to the symposium, a course booklet, view the presenter’s slides online, continental breakfast, mid-morning and afternoon breaks as well as lunch.

We cannot accept faxed or mailed registration forms with credit card information. To pay by check, complete the registration form and mail it in with your check. Please see the registration form for mailing information. Please note: mailed registrations can take up to 5-10 business days before they are received. All registrations will be confirmed by email as long as your registration is received no later than February 13, 2018.


Accrediation:

In support of improving patient care, Penn Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Designation of Credit:

Physicians: Penn Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of  their participation in the activity.

Nurses: This activity is approved for 6.25 contact hours.

Physician Assistants: AAPA accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by ACCME or a recognized state medical society. PAs may receive a maximum of 6.25 Category 1 credits for completing this activity.


Cancellation Policy:

In order to process refunds for course withdrawals, cancellations must be received in writing by February 13, 2018 and are subject to a $15.00 service charge. No refunds will be issued thereafter. 

The University reserves the right to cancel or postpone this course due to unforeseen circumstances. In the event of a cancellation or postponement, the University will refund registration fees but is not responsible for related costs or expenses to participants, including cancellation fees assessed by hotels, airlines, and travel agencies.
